MAKE FURNITURE SHOPPING SIMPLE
Background
LikeThat Decor started with a brain storming session about ways to use machine visual learning to help people find things they cannot describe. Decor and furniture came up, try describing the bed you want? its pretty hard right? but more often then not people are looking at sites like Houzz, Pinterest and a whole host of blogs, but those sites have many images that are not shoppable. LikeThat Decor was born out of trying to make these furniture images shoppable.
Product Research
We started by looking at how users shopped for furniture. Not too surprising people start online to get ideas then spend a lot of time going to stores finding things based on there inspirations. The biggest concern for most people was size. This become really apparent while doing product research. People wanted to see the product in a physical store that way they could see the size and dimensions in real life and how it would fit into there home. From this research it was very clear we needed to have local feeds on both the IOS app and website which also helped with SEO.
Results
We created an app that allowed you to take a picture of any piece of furniture and find a visually similar match locally across many stores. LikeThat Decor has a steady amount of users and ranked 150 on the IOS app store under Catalogs.
HIGH SEO TRAFFIC
A majority of the users find LikeThat Decor through SEO it was a major consideration while building the site as a whole. We tried our best to keep the site looking clean and simple yet still keeping it content rich.
DIFFERENTIATING BETWEEN THE IMAGE USED TO EXPLORE AND TO SHOP
In earlier versions of the site we used to have product styled rectangle images which led to usability problems people expected to go to a detail page and not do a search. When we changed these images from normal product rectangles to circles people instantly got the concept and it improved click through rate as well.
